Members present: Wendy Coe-Loftis, Ann Parsons, Paula McNamara,
Julie Daff, Carol Sinsel, and Owen Walker
Meeting was called to order at 12:30 p.m. by Owen Walker.
Approval of minutes from 10/23/02 and 10/24/02 meetings. Motion
made by Carol and second by Wendy. Discussed correcting name
listed as Michele Fridley to Nicole Fridley listed under members
present for the 10/23/02 meeting. Motion carried.
Treasurer’s report: Checking : $5466.86
Savings: $7321.11
CD: $4727.22
Total: $17515.89
Interest earned
For 2002: Savings: $41.63
CD: $190.98
Total: $232.61
Checking account is off $.22. It may be in bank charges from
Nov. statement and cancelled checks never came. CD will be coming
due in June. Discussed rolling it over. Also discussed comparing
savings interest to CD interest. It was also suggested to look
into short term CD. If we drop below $3500 in checking we may
have to take some out of savings. We need to change type of
checking account to one that is under 50 transactions a month
to lower our service charge fees. We need to have a third name
to sign on checks. Owen will be added. Wendy, Owen and Roger
Crookshanks can sign checks. Signature card needs to have three
names. It will have Carol, Wendy and we will ask Roger Crookshanks
to be the third name. Conference is settled except for $30.00.
Committee Reports:
Computer Communications: Owen updated list for web site. It
will include board meeting time and dates.
Newsletter: Did president message and will be mailing it out
next 2 days.
Membership application and board meeting minutes will be included.
April 8th is deadline for info for next newsletter.
SRAC – Paula reported National Therapeutic Recreation
week is July 13-19. Web site for information is NRPA.ORG NRPA
Southeast Conference is scheduled for 3/28-4/2 in Birmingham.
Grafton hospital is seeking contributions from WVTRA.
ATRA – Carol reported the last week of March is TR on
the hill in D.C. Brent will go for WVTRA. We need to show support
with IDEA. Sixty-five schools currently offer TR programs. Government
forecast for Rec. Therapists is it is a slow growing field.
Membership: Currently have 29 members. NCTRC shows the state
has 65 CTRS’s. A letter was mailed to those on list that
are not members. There are 10-12 in the Martinsburg area and
some in Huntington. Will get with activity directors next and
hope to get directory of membership by late Feb. Hope to get
40 members.
Education: Becky Berlin requested mailing labels. Parent Resource
Center holding conference on Feb. 8th it is free.
Conference report for 2002: There were 21 professionals and
7 students registered. For conference expenses see Conference
income and expense sheet. The 2003 conference is scheduled for
Oct. 15-16 at the Holiday Inn in Bridgeport. Shelly has been
making progress with the conference.
President’s report: Received E-mail from Steven Knarr
requesting membership labels for a conference at Mount St. Joseph.
Old Business: Sending representative to ATRA lobbying Day.
It will be for 3 nights and 2 days. Motion was made for $1000.00
for expenses for conference by Wendy and it was second by Julie.
Motion carried.
New Business: Motion was made by Wendy to set aside $500.00
for sponsorships this year. Carol second the motion. Carol made
a motion that $200.00 be the maximum approved for requests.
Julie second motion. Motion carried. Becky Berlin requested
$180.00 for Sharpe patients to attend the WVU Drum Concert on
March 17. Carol made motion and Paula second motion. Motion
carried. Paula discussed renewal application for NCCAP. WV does
not have certification.
Next board meeting is scheduled for May 12th 2003 at WVRC.
Paula made motion to adjourned meeting. Carol second the motion.
Meeting adjourned at 1:50 p.m.
